Boat Cruising is definitely the most relaxing way for vacationing! You can do everything and anything you want on the ship; well dinning, sleeping, sun-tanning, go for a coffee, head to the gym, shopping, watch a movie…..and anything you can think of. Yes, it is basically a moving city on the ocean!
Today I wanna introduce to you the world’s largest cruise ship: OASIS OF THE SEAS! (well because it’s the only one that I’ve ever been on lol =p) It is owned by the Royal Caribbean International, created back in 2009. It is weighted 225,282 GT (**craaaazy I know**) and it can take up to 6290 passengers! Right, what I just said, basically a moving city on the beautiful Caribbean ocean. <3
So one day my love and I decided to go on the Western Caribbean Cruise on Oasis of the Seas, well we didn’t just decide overnight to be exact, we actually had to book the trip almost one year ahead of time to have to ideal room we wanted.
First we took a flight from Vancouver to Miami as the cruise ship leaves from Fort Lauderdale.
And the cruise line goes like this***: Fort Lauderdale –> Haiti (Labadee) –> Jamaica (Falmouth) –> Mexico (Cozumel)–> Miami (Fort Lauderdale) ***
HAITI - LABADEE
The first destination we arrived was Haiti Labadee Island. The view was just so amazing and blown my mind. The picture above (the little boat) is local people’s taxi, interesting right? Yes that is how people transport from one island to another.
There were a lot of fishermen along the way. I was surprised how the gorgeous little island you are seeing (picture above) does not have a name, and the truth is it does not. And that makes it more interesting because according to the touring guard, people name this island after their loved ones/girlfriend’s name! So I guess you can call it Amy, Nancy, Lucy Island, whatever you like!!!
Generally the cruise ship stops at each location for a full day (arriving in the morning and leaving at night).
If you are interested in any activities, such as jet-ski, parasailing, diving, you do have to book the tickets ahead of
time. I will say at least one day before you arrive at each destination.
To me it was literally 1000 degrees in Falmouth, Jamaica! I was sweating the sh** out of me and I couldn’t believe the locals are wearing knitted hat (**yes people! knitted hat!!) and acted like the heat was nothing to them! I was planning on having a running competition with the locals since Jamaican runners are the world’s best (such as Usain Bolt) However, due to the weather condition, I gave up! =p
A local lady told me that this is the cool season for them (in December and it was 37 Celsius), in summertime every one could walk down the street holding a bottle of “RED STRIPE” – the name of its famous beer in Jamaica, and sipping on it. I mean, you absolutely DO need a bottle of beer to cool you down when it gets sizzling hot there. Also, you could smoke that little “something something” legally everywhere! Wow I know! The culture is so chill, like you can get drunk on the street and feeling relaxed/high. A lot of guys I’ve talked to are like, “Yep totally gonna go!” =p
There are going to be a couple of days when you are staying on the cruise ship while it’s traveling. But don’t worry! There’s so many things that you can do on there to keep yourself busy!
You can soak in the sun everyday until you think you tan is just perfect. You can play in the swimming pool, you can play basketball, table tennis, surfing, gamble in the Casino, get a message done, shopping (*Shelltips: a lot of the shops are tax&duty free, so take advantage!! **I know no need to thank me lol) Well, sounds like your already have your three days plan done! =p
Besides all the fun stuff explained above, you can also visit the theater and watch a Broadway show. There are plenty of other amazing shows like skating ice show, comedy show, which are a lot of fun but you just have to book your ticket/time as soon as you can.
MEXICO - COZUMEL
The final traveling point of this trip is Mexico Cozumel, stunning place for vacationing. I could relax all day long on the beach; there’s also lots of water activities such as diving, sailing and etc.
The most famous tree is called the Chewing Gum Tree in Mexico, and you can find them almost everywhere along the streets. (picture below)
One place that you must visit is the famous CHICHENITZA
Chichen Itza was one of the largest Maya cities and it was likely to have been one of the mythical great cities. Chichen Itza is one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico; an estimated 1.2 million tourists visit the ruins every year.
If you ask why did the Maya, the remarkably sophisticated civilization collapse, and how did they die out? According to researches, it could be from over hunting, foreign invasion. It’s hard to tell, but from what the tourist guard said, they definitely killed each other a lot, sometimes just killing for fun, and cut off each other’s heads and turn them into walls. (you can see from the picture **so scary)
Before heading back to Fort Lauderdale, there’s other fun activities you can do on the cruise ship as well! Lots of night life, bars, shows. Oh remember to bring some formal clothes as there will be one or two formal occasions where people all dress up and enjoy their nights!
Belows are the restaurants and the food
It is time to turn yourself into a pig and start eating like you never did before! lol
What living’s like, and the shower towel art is always making us happy! <3
Hope you guys enjoyed the article, sure it helped with your future cruise ships !
Have a great day! XOXO
